Abstract

Abstract

This study emphasizes the importance of empowerment parental care for individuals with mental illness in coping with the problems they live in. Giving care to an individual with a mental illness can change the whole course of life of the parents of these individuals and cause loss of control over their lives. Individuals who care for the disease process may become unable to cope with disease symptoms, care giving process, family and community pressures and stigma. It is very important to examine the impact of the empowerment approach at this point on the caregiving individual. For this purpose, in this study, firstly information about the empowerment approach was given and then the relation between the mental health field and the empowerment approach was given.
