Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the moderator role of perceived social support levels in the relationship between university students' proactive career behaviors and their hopelessness. The participants of the study consisted of 302 students, 165 females and 137 males, studying at a university in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. “Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support Scale”, “Beck Hopelessness Scale” and “Career Engagement Scale” were used to collect data from the participants. The relationships between students' hopelessness, perceived social support and proactive career behaviors were tested with Pearson correlation analysis. The predictive effect of hopelessness and perceived social support on proactive career behaviors and the moderator role of perceived social support were investigated by regression analysis based on bosstraping method. As a result of the correlation analysis, it was observed that proactive career behaviors had significant relationships with hopelessness and perceived social support. As a result of the regression analysis, it was concluded that hopelessness and perceived social support were predictors of proactive career behaviors. In addition, it was concluded that perceived social support has a moderating role in the relationship between hopelessness and proactive career behaviors.
