Abstract

Abstract

The COVID-19 epidemic has negatively affected and continues to affect many sectors in terms of economy as well as human health. Air transport is one of the most affected sectors due to travel restrictions. With the discovery of the vaccine against the epidemic, the period called the new normal has been passed in many countries of the world. Within the measures taken in this process, it has become important to investigate the attitudes of the COVID-19 epidemic towards the use of air passenger transportation services in the new normal period. When the relevant literature is examined, it is seen that the studies on this subject are quite limited. The aim of this study is to reveal the factors affecting the intention of airline passengers to use air passenger transportation services in the new normal period. Research data were collected across Turkey by online survey method between 19 April 2021 – 13 May 2021. Convenience sampling method was used in the research. The collected data were analyzed by PLS structural equation modeling. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the COVID-19 risk in the countries of origin and destination affected the intention of airline passengers to use air passenger transport in the new normal period. The research contributes to the very limited academic literature on the subject in the new normal period. From a practical point of view, the results of the research are important for the strategies that air passenger transport companies and governments can follow.
